چکیده

The introduction of the idea of Business Process Re-engineering in the late 1980’s has resulted in an explosion of the literature. In practice the success rates of re-engineering projects is low since the majority of the approaches are founded on a functional understanding of business systems. To be really effective however, business system transformation needs to be founded in a constructional perspective on business systems. The DEMO methodology provides a theoretical foundation and a modelling facility to reveal the construction of business systems. In the current paper, techniques for optimising business systems on the basis of the constructional DEMO models are presented and illustrated.

Understanding and Modelling Business Processes with DEMO

DEMO is a methodology for modeling, (re)designing and (re)engineering organizations. Its theoretical basis draws on three scientific sources of inspiration: Habermas’ Communicative Action Theory, Stamper’s Semiotic Ladder, and Bunge’s Ontology. The core notion is the OER-transaction, which is a recurrent pattern of communication and action. This notion serves as the universal (atomic) building ...

Engineering the Decision-Making Process Using Multiple Markov Theories and DEMO

In the current fast-changing and turbulent operational environments, the organizations are continually being pressured by many endogenous and exogenous environmental variables. Many and complex effects occur simultaneously and large volumes of data are available. For this reason, in a process-based organization, when change is demanded (e.g., business processes re-engineering) it is difficult t...

Identifying Combinatorial Effects in Requirements Engineering

There are several best practices and proposals that help to design and develop software systems immune (to some extent) to combinatorial effects as these systems evolve. Normalized Systems theory, considered at the software architecture level, is one of such proposals. However, at the requirements engineering (RE)-level, little research has been done regarding this issue. This paper discusses e...

Modelling dynamic behaviour of business organisations - extension of DEMO from a semiotic perspective

An organisation is by virtue an information system, in which information is used for communication and coordination of activities. This information system is built upon the organisational infrastructure and is supposed to support the business processes. To study the organisational behaviour in the form of business processes, one needs an effective modelling method to capture dynamics of busines...

A DEMO Machine - A Formal Foundation for Execution of DEMO Models

The discipline of enterprise engineering and the DEMO methodology provide enterprise designers with a formal techniques to design companies where competency, responsibility and authority is clearly defined. In such companies, process-based anomalies can be avoided and people tend to cooperate more effectively and contentedly. These techniques are so far mostly used just for business process mod...
